Current Board of Directors

Tony Johansen
Great Northwest, Inc.
President
Tony Johansen

A life long resident of Fairbanks, Alaska, Tony Johansen is married, the father of four children and grandfather of one.  He holds an undergraduate degree in civil engineering from the University of Alaska and a masters in civil engineering from Stanford University.  For the past thirty-six years Tony has been building roads and airports in Alaska, the last eleven as a partner in Great Northwest, Inc., a highway contractor based in Fairbanks, Alaska.  Prior to that, he served five years with the State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities as the Regional Director of the Department’s Northern Region.

Tony has served on the University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Engineering and Mines Advisory and Development Council.  He currently serves on the Executive Board of the Associated General Contractors of Alaska.  He is also on the Board of Directors of the Operating Engineers and Employers Training Trust, the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center and the Fairbanks Economic Development Corporation.

John Eng, VP
C. John Eng
Cornerstone General Contractors, Inc.
Vice President

John has no secrets; he likes to hang out with people that are more talented than he. He feels that this practice helps to elevate him and has worked well in business and his relationship with others and especially with Jaysen Mathiesen (co-owner of Cornerstone), as well as his marriage to Lynn.

John’s definition of success is the never ending devotion of effort, energy, and development of himself and his business for the achievement of worthwhile goals

He enjoys his work and the people he knows.  His 2 married sons, Jason age 38, and Geoffrey age 33, who both live and work in Los Angeles, daughters-in- law, grandchild, neighbors, friends, and associates are a large part of his joy.  We all enjoy our “inside jokes” and humor, as well as our serious moments. John would describe himself as a person that is not very dramatic, and perhaps in many ways boring.  John’s career in construction has been very enjoyable and rewarding in many ways.  His time away from work involves reading, exercise, travel, gardening, entertaining, and visiting family and relatives.  He advised his sons that they should be very careful in choosing a career, since a career will probably become a way of life.  John is President and Chairman of Board of Cornerstone General Contractors, Inc. and current Vice President of the AGC of Alaska.  He is active in a number of organizations, including Anchorage Lutheran Church, Alaska World Affairs Council, Anchorage Rotary Club, and UAA College of Fellows.

Teri Gunter and her sister Jackie Glatt are the owners of Senco Alaska, Inc., which has been at the corner of Dowling and Old Seward since 1974.  Started by their parents in the late 1960’s, they have worked to maintain a high standard of service and quality, while keeping Senco Alaska a family owned and operated business.   Teri, who is born and raised in Alaska, has worked for the company for 35 years, is married to Ronnie Gunter and they have two children.  Senco Alaska specializes in pneumatic tools and fasteners and carries Senco, Max, and Fomo products for the construction industry, and continues to expand their product lines to meet the needs of their customers.
